The UCD Medical Device Design Group, part of the UCD Centre for Biomedical Engineering and the School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering, have an immediate opening for an experienced postdoctoral researcher to join the group. The researcher will work on medical device development as part of the DRIVE(Diabetes Reversing Implants with enhanced Viability and long-term Efficacy) consortium. This consortium involves fourteen partners from seven European countries and has received €8.9 million funding as part of the Horizon 2020 – Research and Innovation Framework Programme. The DRIVE programme will develop natural materials and new surgical devices to enhance the transplant and survival of insulin producing pancreatic islets for the treatment of diabetes. The researcher will be tasked with developing novel microporous and macroporous structures as components of a device to deliver pancreatic β-cells effectively in a targeted and protected fashion.
Salary: €33,975 – €46,244 per annum
Appointment on the above range will be dependent on relevant experience.
