The Department of Biological Sciences is recruiting an experienced mass spectrometrist to help build a competitive metabolomics program. The successful candidate will help develop novel computational and analytical approaches for identifying small molecules using state-of-the-art high resolution mass spectrometry methods. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for 2 years (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The position involves developing chromatography methods, developing and validating targeted & untargeted metabolomics methods, maintaining instruments, processing data and running independent research projects. Presentation and communication of research and research results to a variety of audiences and in different venues is also involved. The primary purpose for Mass Spectrometrist is to assist the Principle Investigator and the research team in the acquisition and interpretation of mass spectrometry data. The position involves developing chromatography methods, developing and validating targeted & untargeted metabolomics methods, maintaining instruments, processing data and running independent research projects.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Maintaining and operating complex laboratory instruments such as High Performance
- Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Mass Spectrometers
- Executing the successful tuning and calibration of LC-MS/MS systems, identifying system errors, troubleshooting the system when necessary
- Developing chromatography methods
- Developing targeted & untargeted metabolomics methods
- Running independent research projects
- Providing training and guidance to the junior research members
- Independently processing and analysing mass spec data
- Preparing daily work lists for all methods and all matrices, ensuring accuracy of methods and most efficient use of instrument time
