Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Algebra

The Western Sydney University is a large multi-campus university servicing a diverse range of students. The Centre for Research in Mathematics is a newly established University Research Centre whose expertise covers a broad spectrum of pure and applied mathematics. Its strengths include control theory, computational statistics, and several areas of algebra including group theory and ring theory.
We seek an energetic, forward thinking, dynamic, and innovative scholar to take on a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship for a fixed term of two and a half years. The appointee will be based at the Parramatta Campus.
The successful applicant is expected to work on areas related with the ARC Discovery Grant Chief Investigator of the following project : “Graded K-theory as invariants for path algebras” in particular, the structure of Leavitt paths algebras. Leavitt path algebras were introduced about 10 years ago by Gene Abrams and Pere Ara, among others, who will be closely involved in this project. Since then the activity on these algebras has exploded, and they have appeared in a variety of different contexts as diverse as analysis, symbolic dynamics, noncommutative geometry and representation theory. The classification of such algebras has remained a major task and is the main theme of this project. The appointee is expected to work on the structure of Leavitt path algebras and topics related to it.
The successful applicant is expected to be developing a strong international standing and research reputation, have an excellent research background in the field of algebra, undertake independent research in one or more of the defined research projects as described above, be involved in research student supervision, organise and/or participate in various research activities including research seminars and discussions, short courses, mentoring programs and career development activities, and research grant applications, and contribute to the School teaching.
This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for a period of 2.5 years based at Parramatta.
