Research Associate

University of Kent - School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research

Do you have a background in economics, psychology, statistics or a related subject? Are you passionate about research and have experience in quantitative methods? Personal Social Services Research Unit have an opportunity to join their team within QORU.

Your main role will be to support QORU projects that seek to (a) measure the quality-of-life and wellbeing outcomes of care services; (b) understand what affects people';s care-related quality of life and (c) see how far services can improve quality of life. A particular focus will be on the implications for Health and Care policy in England, especially concerning outcomes and performance assessment, and policies to support people with long-term conditions including person-centred and integrated care.

Key audiences for the research will be policy-makers in the Department of Health, NHS England and local authorities. The research will produce a range of outputs, including academic journal articles, reports and blogs.

The position is offered on a full time basis for a fixed period until 31 December 2017.

As Research Associate you will:

  • Be an active member of a team contracted to complete research projects on time and to a high standard.
  • Produce and publish high-quality academic research.
  • Help deliver the relevant components of these research projects.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Evidence of potential to develop good research skills.
  • Quantitative methods skills.
  • Evidence of ability to write research reports and journal articles, and contribute fully to all written outputs.

Personal Social Services Research Unit

The Personal Social Services Research Unit was established in 1974 with Department of Health funding. It carries out independent research aimed at improving the equity and efficiency of social and health care. PSSRU researchers come from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds, including the caring professions. The Unit's work has had an important influence on theory, and policy development and reform in several countries: for instance, in care-managed community care of older people and the study of costs and the costs of outcomes.

PSSRU is part of the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research (SSPSSR).
