The four-year programme
Undertaking your PhD studies through the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Power Networks will enable you to develop a specialist research interest, whilst gaining a holistic view of the criticality of Power Networks through working with a multi-disciplinary group of fellow students, academics and industrial partners.
This multi-disciplinary training environment will enable you to develop the knowledge and skills for a career at the leading edge of Power Network research, design development and management, and help deliver our future energy provisions.
With support from leading industrial partners, students enrolled in the Centre will have multiple opportunities to interact with leading companies in the energy sector and to undertake personal development training activities required to support a future career in this sector.
Alongside bespoke taught units created for and delivered to the Power Networks CDT students, you will select additional units relevant to your project. You will also work with your supervisor to undertake preparatory work for your research project.
Once you have successfully completed the taught component, you will begin your research project with supervision and support from your supervisors and other academic staff, CDT staff, industrial supporters and your fellow students. You will
also receive additional training relevant to careers in industry and academia and undertake public engagement and outreach activities. Students are also encouraged and supported to attend and present at conferences, seminars and
other events.
Entry requirements
All studentships are available to UK candidates. *EU candidates who have been working or studying in the UK continuously for three or more years are also eligible. We may have additional funding for some EU candidates who do not meet the three-year residency requirement.
You will have, or will be about to obtain a 1st or 2:1, or an MSc degree within Engineering and Physical Sciences or Humanities.
Studentship value
The studentship covers home/eu fees and pays an annual stipend of £17,500 (tax free).
