This is an exciting opportunity to work on a Colt Foundation-funded project “Time to face the music: Addressing hearing health in future professional musicians”.
The project will make a significant contribution to minimising the occupational risks of hearing loss in future professional musicians and identify means of early identification and prevention of hearing loss. The project will involve working with musicians, hearing scientists and health psychologists from the University of Manchester and the Royal Northern College of Music.
This project has two goals:
- Detailed assessment of hearing and tinnitus in music students at the Royal Northern College of Music using state-of-the art audiological measures.
- Identification of reasons for non-use of hearing protection using insights from health psychology, and use of these data to develop and test interventions to increase the use of hearing protection to prevent hearing loss among future professional musicians.
You should hold a PhD or equivalent in Psychology, audiology or related discipline to gain, or build on previous experience of conducting research in hearing and in health psychology. Previous experience of working with research participants in longitudinal studies at graduate level is desirable.
