The Max Planck Institute for Physics focuses on particle and astroparticle physics from both experimental and theoretical perspectives. One of the main research projects of the institute is the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB facility in Tsukuba, Japan. Belle II offers the possibility for precision studies of CP violating phenomena, rare decays and of the flavour sector in general. The institute’s contribution to Belle II is a pixel vertex detector. The detector uses DEPFET active pixel sensors that are fabricated in the semiconductor laboratory of the Max Planck Society.
We offer a post-doctoral position for this project. The successful applicant is expected to coordinate and supervise the final assembly of the detector, participate in its integration into the Belle II detector system, its commissioning, and the supervision during data taking. The applicant should have excellent knowledge of silicon detectors and readout electronics. Furthermore experience in the design, construction and operation of vertex detectors in colliding beam experiments would be an advantage. The applicant should also play an active role in the physics analysis of the Belle II data. Since a large part of the project is carried out in Japan the successful candidate is expected to spend a significant share of his or her time in Tsukuba, Japan.
Salary and benefits are according to the German public service pay scale (TVöD Bund). The contract is initially limited to three years with the possibility of extension.
