Postdoctoral Fellow in Neuroscience : Riverside, CA, United States
A full-time postdoctoral position is available immediately to investigate the circuit-level mechanism by which the cortical network supports memory, under the direction of Dr. Ed Korzus. This project involves analysis of molecular and neural mechanisms underlying memory including targeted gene modulation, in vivo calcium recording from neural populations and/or optogenetics in mice to define the circuit-level mechanism. The position will be funded by multiyear federal grants. Facilities include behavioral suite with equipment for behavioral testing and analysis, a typical molecular biology laboratory, tissue culture suite, microscopy-histology-electrophysiology suite (e.g., laser-scanning confocal fluorescence microscope coupled with electrophysiological systems for recording and stimulation), fluorescent microscopes for imaging of cortical circuits in living animals, set-up for optogenetic studies in behaving mice, and surgical suite designed for survival surgeries including virus-mediated gene delivery. Prior expertise in calcium imaging or optogenetics or neurophysiology is desirable but not required. Training in specific techniques such as in vivo calcium imaging or optogenetics can be provided if needed. Located in Southern California proximally to Los Angeles and San Diego, the University of California Riverside community provides an ambitious, supportive and collaborative research environment, and offers excellent training and career development opportunities.
