The Position
CSIRO Postdoctoral Fellows provide opportunities to scientists and engineers, who have completed their doctorate and have less than three years relevant postdoctoral work experience. These fellowships will help launch their careers, provide experience that will enhance their career prospects, and facilitate the recruitment and development of potential leaders for CSIRO.
Applications are invited for a 3 year CSIRO Postdoctoral Fellowship to develop computational models of the changes in microstructure and related properties that occur in metallic additive manufacturing. The approaches developed will be suitable for the rapid and repeated heating and cooling cycles that occur in the additive manufacturing process, and to the titanium and aluminium alloys that are of most interest. The Postdoctoral Fellow will work closely with CSIRO's experimental team and collaborators, benchmarking the microstructure and property model against detailed measurements.
Specifically you will:
- Develop computational models of the changes in microstructure and related properties that occur in metallic additive manufacturing.
- Work closely with experimentalists to benchmark the microstructure and property models against measurements.
- Work with other members of the modelling team to integrate the microstructure and property models with models of other aspects of additive manufacturing processes.
- Under the direction of senior research scientists, carry out innovative research leading to important new scientific results.
-
Produce high quality scientific and/or engineering papers suitable for publication in quality journals, for client reports and granting of patents.
Location: Clayton, Melbourne, VIC, Australia
Salary: $78K - $88K plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Tenure: 3 year specified term
Reference: 25522
To be successful you will need: - A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as Materials Science or Engineering.
- Strong track record of research in computational modelling of microstructure evolution in metallic systems during solidification, preferably in titanium and/or aluminium alloys under non-equilibrium conditions.
- A basic understanding of the different methods (e.g. phase field method, classical sharp interface method, etc.) available to model microstructure evolution.
-
Demonstrated experience in computer programming in a high-level language.
Owing to the terms of the fellowship, candidates must not have more than 3 years of relevant full time postdoctoral research experience.
