The Christiano Lab in the Department of Dermatology at Columbia University Medical Center seeks a Staff Associate to join ongoing investigations into the immunopathogenesis of autoimmune skin diseases, and the identification of autoantigens that drive disease. The staff associate will work closely with the Principle Investigator and senior laboratory personnel to plan and execute experiments related to this project.


Specific duties include:

- Sterile processing of human tissue and blood, and processing of mouse tissues, isolation of lymphocytes, and in vitro T cell culture
- T cell stimulation assays, analysis of T cell activation using flow cytometry, Elispot, ELISA, real-time PCR. Basic molecular biology techniques.
- Applying independent knowledge of immunology / cell biology to set up and optimize new protocols for use in the lab. Independently identify issues and formulate solutions
- Independently analyze data and present research results. Actively participate in meetings related to research planning and discussion of results
- Maintain detailed records of all lab activities including the planned experiments


Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences plus at least four years of professional experience with cell culture and molecular biology required. Background in immunology and experience working with lymphocytes preferred. Other requirements include strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to develop and learn new techniques as required for these studies. Candidates must have a strong interest in translational skin immunology research and publishing.
