Advanced Device Simulation Postdoctoral Appointee
- Sandia National Laboratories
- Location: Albuquerque, NM
- Job Number: 7051627 (Ref #: 662277)
- Posting Date: Jun 2, 2018
Job Description
This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment. Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance. : A post-doctoral opening exists for an exceptional candidate to conduct leading-edge research on simulation of advanced semiconductor devices. Wide- and ultra-wide-bandgap (WBG/UWBG) gallium nitride (GaN) and aluminum gallium nitride (AlGaN) high-power devices are of primary interest, although the position may involve simulation of other semiconductor materials and device types as well. Models will be used to improve device design and reliability, and will push the state-of-the-art. Select results will be published in journal articles and conference presentations. On any given day, you may be called on to: • Model the static and dynamic behavior of semiconductor devices • Optimize the design of new semiconductor device types • Implement the physics of new semiconductor materials into device simulations • Correlate simulation output to experimental results • Provide circuit designers with device models useful for circuit design and simulationRequired:
• PhD, conferred within 5 years prior to employment, in electrical engineering, applied physics, materials science, or an equivalent field • A demonstrated record of semiconductor device research as evidenced by publications, patents, and/or conference presentations • Expertise in TCAD software such as Silvaco Atlas • Experience with general numerical analysis software such as MATLAB • Ability to write papers for publication in refereed journals and conferences • Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE L security clearance
Desired:
• Experience with laboratory electrical characterization equipment such as semiconductor parameter analyzers and oscilloscopes • Outstanding organizational skills • Ability to interact well in a team environment
Department Description:
The Semiconductor Material and Device Sciences Department (1873) is engaged in semiconductor physics and device research, with parallel and complementary efforts in fundamental science and novel device technologies. The department sits within 1800, the Center for Material, Physical, and Chemical sciences. One of several current focus areas are III-nitride based materials and devices for power electronics and related applications, which have enormous short-and-long-term potential for Sandia’s national security missions. Other ongoing efforts include nano-photonics, radiation effects and defect spectroscopy in semiconductors, blue and UV optoelectronics, and novel device concepts.
