POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW, MOLECULAR BASIS OF PARKINSON’S DISEASE We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join a dynamic research team studying the molecular and cellular pathways that contribute to Parkinson’s disease (PD) pathology. The long term goal of our studies focusing mainly on mutations in LRRK2, and α_-synuclein _genes is to delineate the pathophysiological mechanisms that underlie PD, providing in this way the opportunity to develop therapeutic strategies for a disease that is currently addressed symptomatically. Candidates who have graduated with PhD or MD/PhD degrees with a strong record of peer-reviewed publications (including at least one first author publication) are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate should have a solid training inneuroscience. S/he will perform high resolution imaging in mice sections or primary neurons in culture. The position also requires strong research skills in neuroanatomy, cell biology, behavioral pharmacology as well as excellenttechnical expertise in stereotaxic intracranial mice injections and electrophysiological methods. The laboratory possesses state-of-the-art equipment and is housed in a new open-lab design research building. The postdoctoral fellow’s duties will include: organizing and implementing complex research plans, the development of new methods, analysis and interpretation of data, writing detailed scientific reports and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. Though the position is funded, candidates will be mentored to apply for additional support. In addition to core lab projects, postdocs will be able to pursue studies that combine their interests with that of the PI. The laboratory is located in the downtown Chicago Northwestern campus in a vibrant neighborhood and is part of the Feinberg School of Medicine. Northwestern University is one of the top-ranked universities in the country, and it has an excellent neuroscience/neurodegeneration program. An interactive supportive environment supported by a strong network of research services and more than 60 core facilities along with institutional strong commitment to pioneer research ensures for significant scientific breakthroughs. As such, candidates should be highly motivated, and energetic to perform innovative research projects. Salary and benefits will be competitive.
