POSITION SUMMARY
Perform specialized work in hypertension research to fulfill the commitments in the NIH research projects. Study vascular relaxation and contractions using wire and pressure myograph. Use transgenic mouse models and state of art pressure radio-telemetry and myographs to study role of oxidative stress in endothelial dysfunction, vascular wall remodeling and hypertension. Use echocardiography to analyze vascular flow dynamics.
Responsibilities of Senior Postdoctoral fellows include, but not limited, the following:
Design and perform experiments, data collection, processing, and analysis. Perform the research required by the faculty supervisor to a high standard and in accordance with all institutional and federal regulations.
Assist the P.I. and his/her collaborators, or may act independently, in planning and designing research experiments and establishing priorities.
Operate specialized scientific equipment. Effectively uses available technology to facilitate the success of the project. Seeks and learns new techniques to advance the project.
Conduct literature reviews
Assume primary responsibility for the development of his or her research and career.
Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as appropriate.
Participate in the postdoc career development and annual review process.
Presentation of project results to internal and external parties and producing written reports on the result of the analyses.
Attend research seminars
Train graduate students and others in the lab as needed
Prepare abstracts and manuscripts for publication; Prepare materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION
Ph.D. degree in life sciences, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, physiology or a related science field.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Prior research experience in handling animals and microsurgery in mice or rat is required. Experience in echocardiography, telemetry and isolated mouse heart preparation is desirable. Biochemical and molecular biology skills in determination of protein function, signal transduction and enzymatic assays are a plus.
