We are currently looking for a postdoctoral fellow in metabolism research for a period of two years starting October 2018 or as agreed.
The project is conducted at the Oncology Research Laboratory at Umeå University. The Oncology Research Laboratory is a translational research unit at the interface between the University Hospital in Umeå and Umeå University. The postdoctoral fellow will be given good opportunities to interact with researchers in his or her own and other research groups, and to build an independent line of competitive research.
Project description
Fatty liver, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and diabetes are a group of associated syndromes and diseases that constitute an increasing and worldwide epidemic. Cellular metabolism is regulated by extracellular cues that act through various growth factor receptors and their downstream signal transduction cascades. If signaling pathways that are critically important for organismal and cellular metabolism can be identified, novel therapeutic targets may simultaneously be revealed. Recently, we discovered a novel signaling event that regulates metabolism in cells and animals. This project will further investigate the molecular mechanisms behind the discovered signaling event and the roles played by the involved proteins in regulating metabolic homeostasis in mice, as well as developing novel inhibitors of the signaling pathway. The overall aim is to develop new therapeutic strategies that target metabolic disease by selectively interfering with the discovered signaling pathway.
Qualification requirements and other desirable requirements
Candidates must hold a University degree equivalent to a European University PhD at the time of recruitment. We are looking for a highly talented and motivated candidate with a record of productive research, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. A strong background in cell and molecular biology, bioinformatics, and animal research is highly desirable. Excellent verbal and written English communication skills are required.
Application
The application shall include the following documents:
• A short description of your research interests (max one A4 page) and why you are interested in the fellowship.
• Curriculum vitae (CV) including list of technical expertise and list of publications.
• Copies of diplomas and electronic copies of PhD thesis.
• Contact information for two reference persons.
The complete application, marked with reference number FS 2.1.6-1359-18, must be sent tomedel@diarie.umu.se (state the reference number as subject) or to Umeå University, Registrator, 901 87 Umeå no later than September 14 2018.
