A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Yonghao Yu, Ph.D., in the Department of Biochemistry of UT Southwestern Medical Center to study Mass Spectrometry/Proteomics /Signal Transduction/Cancer Biology and metabolism. We combine state-of-the-art proteomic analysis with classical biochemical/molecular biochemical approaches to decipher the fundamental mechanisms of tumorigenesis.
On the proteomic technology side, we are particularly interested in developing next generation largescale quantitative mass spec technologies, including those relevant to sample preparation, instrumentation and computation. We then deploy these powerful technologies to characterize protein modifications, including phosphorylation, ubiquitination, and ADP-ribosylation, etc, in a global, quantitative and site-specific manner. On the cancer biology side, our group aims to translate the discoveries made by the large scale proteomic experiments to understand the molecular underpinnings during the transformation of human malignancies. We characterize the remodeling of the (modified) proteome during tumorigenesis, and in do so, elucidate how the deregulation of key signaling pathways (in particular those involved in regulating protein modifications, e.g., kinases, epigenetic regulators and PARPs) lead to human cancer.

On the translational research side, our group aims at identifying protein expression/modification patterns that may serve as diagnostic, prognostic or predictive biomarkers, and developing small molecule-based therapeutics for treating cancer. In addition to the research projects within the group, our group is actively engaged in numerous collaborations with both academic as well as industrial partners. The interdisciplinary and collaborative environment of our group provides highly unique career development opportunities for the postdoc trainees.
Requirement:
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree. Experience in:
i) biochemistry, in particular relevant to DNA damage repair and epigenetics
ii) molecular biology and structural biology
iii) mammalian cell biology,
iv) cancer biology and metabolism
v) Proteomics
leading to publication in peer-reviewed journals are recommended. Prior exposure to mass spectrometry is preferred, but NOT required.
