Postdoctoral position in HIV biology
Job Description
Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine has an opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate within the laboratory of Professor James Stivers in Department of Pharmacology and Molecular Sciences. Dr. Stivers seeks a highly motivated, independent individual to carry out complex research assignments in the area of HIV-1 infection of macrophages and monocytes. The selected applicant will contribute to the independent design and execution of experiments for this project and prepare scientific manuscripts based on their work. The position also involves presentation of data at departmental seminars and scientific meetings and contributing preliminary data for grant proposals.
The position requires expertise in general molecular biology methods; immune cell biology; isolation of monocytes and macrophages from human blood; primary cell culture methods; in vitro viral infections; RNA/DNA isolation and analyses by qPCR, ddPCR, and RT-PCR; gene knockdown methods; protein detection purification and analyses; and single clone DNA/RNA sequencing.
Education requirements include a Ph.D. degree, fluency in English, a preferred background in virology and/or immune cell biology, and a record of relevant peer-reviewed publications. Letters from at least two references who can attest to the applicant’s qualifications and motivation are required.
Other qualifications include: A record of two to three first author publications in peer-reviewed journals is highly desirable. Only individuals who are US citizens, permanent residents, or foreign nationals already in the US under a valid VISA will be considered.
