Postdoc in Nanomechanics & Nanoplasmonics : Vienna, Austria
The Institute of Sensor and Actuator Systems (ISAS) at the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien) has available a postdoctoral position for 3 years, to work on a project on nanoplasmomechanical sensing. The estimated starting date is December 1, 2018.
The project will be hosted in the Micro and Nanosensors Group (MNS). In MNS we conduct fundamental research of nanomechanical resonators. We study the extraordinary properties of nanomechanical resonators and explored their use for a broad field of applications, such as single-molecule imaging and analysis, protein mass spectrometry, infrared/THz photodetection, and study of surface physics.
Responsibilities and tasks
The successful candidates will be part of a team dedicated to the design and fundamental study of novel hybrid nanomechanical-nanoplasmonic systems for sensing applications.
Some of the tasks involved are:
- experimental planning, design, micro/nanofabrication, and implementation,
- optimization of optical measurement setup,
- theoretical and numerical simulation and analysis,
- support of teaching activities,
- and supervision of student projects.
Qualifications
The candidate should have a PhD degree (or equivalent) and a strong background in experimental micro- and nanomechanics with additional experience in optics, nanophotonics, or optomechanics. Additionally, the candidate should have gained experience in teaching and supervision of student projects.
We expect the successful candidate to be an independent, motivated, and diligent personality who with his/her own ideas can push the activities in our group forward. He/she should have very good communication and writing skills (in English), be able to work closely with other team members, and be a good mentor to younger students.
We offer
In the MNS group we perform fundamental studies on nanomechanical resonators and enhance their exceptional properties to build novel ultrasensitive sensors and transducers.
We are a young and highly international research group. We have a friendly and dynamic research environment with daily interaction among all group members and strong collaborations with many international academic partners. Technical support is excellent with in-house state-of-the-art cleanroom facilities.
We are situated in the heart of Vienna, the most livable city in the world, at the city campus of TU Wien. TU Wien is one of the leading technical universities of Northern Europe, where we enjoy newly renovated office and lab space and a brand-new cleanroom facility.
Salary
Salaries of position are according to Austrian Collective Agreement for employees at universities, salary group B1, based on 40 hours per week, and a gross salary of currently EUR 51.955,40 per year.
