Description
Dr. Athena Starlard-Davenport, Department of Genetics, Genomics and Informatics, is looking for an exceptional Postdoctoral Fellow to conduct studies on the epigenetics of globin gene regulation in sickle cell disease. We use cell culture, human blood specimens, biochemical assays, and genomic profiling to identify targeted therapies for fetal hemoglobin induction. This fellow must think independently to design and plan experiments, problem solve, and be technically skilled in typical molecular techniques, with essential expertise in quantitative real-time PCR, murine models, cell culture, and flow cytometry/FACS analysis. Knowledge of specific techniques/equipment needed: Cytospin, Giemsa staining, Nucleofector, expression vectors (DNA and lentiviral), Flow cytometry, aseptic technique for cell culture of primary erythroid cell culture and cell lines, Western, qPCR, PCR, immunohistochemistry, Townes sickle rodent pre-clinical model. Knowledge of globin gene regulation, erythropoiesis, and informatics are a plus. This fellow is expected to apply for grants (K, K99, and F32 other postdoctoral grants) with the mentoring support of Dr. Starlard-Davenport. Exceptional oral and written skills are required. Fellows must complete first and co-author manuscripts and present findings at local and national meetings. We are looking for an accomplished, organized, efficient, trustworthy, and dynamic personality to work with the Starlard-Davenport lab (https://academic.uthsc.edu/faculty/facepage.php?netID=astarlar&personnel_id=339659) at University of Tennessee Health Science Center (https://uthsc.edu/) in the Department of Genetics, Genomics and Informatics (https://www.uthsc.edu/genetics/). Postdoctoral fellows will be part of the University of Tennessee Postdoctoral Association (http://www.uthsc.edu/PhDA) with the support of the UTHSC postdoctoral office (http://www.uthsc.edu/postdoc/).
Qualifications
Ph.D. must have been completed later than 2014. Ph.D. in molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or similar with >5 years of experience is required. Multiple lead publications in top scientific journals and presentations at national conferences are required.
