The School is based largely within the Wallace Wurth (Medicine) Building on the Kensington campus, but also includes the Lowy Cancer Research Centre.

The Stem Cell Group is located in the Lowy Cancer Research Centre (School of Medical Sciences, UNSW Sydney). The primary purpose of this position is to conduct high quality research in Myelodysplasia (MDS) and Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) within the Stem Cell Group. The position holder will have access to patient bone marrow and blood samples collected as part of an investigator initiated clinical trial designed to understand drug response and resistance characteristics to Azacitidine. The successful candidate will undertake in vitro and in vivo studies investigating the role of immune cells in modulating tumour growth and drug response in MDS and low-blast count AML and oversee a program establishing patient derived mouse xenografts for pre-clinical drug testing.
About the successful applicant
To be successful in this role you will:
PhD in medical sciences with 1-8 years post-doctoral research experience in immunology and normal and malignant hematopoiesis.
Highly skilled in flow cytometry of human and mouse bone marrow hematopoietic and stromal cell fractions.
Highly skilled in advanced molecular biology and cell biology techniques
Demonstrated experience in mouse models of leukemia.
