The Research Institute
Center for Vaccines and Immunity
An NIH-funded postdoctoral position is immediately available at The Ohio State University/ Nationwide Children’s Hospital to study the spread mechanism for hepatitis E virus (HEV). Our previous studies have shown that certain hepatitis virus including HAV and HEV hijack host membranes during their release from infected cells, and these ‘quasi-enveloped’ virions mediate spread in the body (Nature, 2013; Ann Rev Virol, 2014; J Clin Invest, 2015; J Virol, 2016; PNAS, 2018). Projects will focus on understanding how the quasi-envelopment affects virus spread and antibody-mediated neutralization. Opportunities also exist to study the release mechanisms for hepatitis B and D viruses.
Responsibilities: The candidate is expected to be highly motivated, have excellent technical and communication skills, perform self-directed research, and assist the PI in preparing manuscripts and grant applications.
Minimum requirements: Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent with strong research experience in molecular biology and cell biology. Applicants with experience in virology or innate immunity are particularly encouraged to apply. Salary will be competitive, commensurate with experience. Interested applicants should submit a CV, a brief description of their research achievements and interests, and a list of three references to Dr. Zongdi Feng (Zongdi.Feng@nationwidechildrens.org).
