PhD and PostDoc positions in highly interdisciplinary consortium on the Physics of integrin adhesion
Technical University of Munich (TUM)
The Physics Department of the Technical University of Munich (http://www.bio.ph.tum.de) and the Department of Molecular Medicine at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry (http://www.biochem.mpg.de/faessler) have several job openings and are seeking to fill them with Biophysicists as well as Biochemists at the pre- as well as postdoctoral level. The successful candidates for these positions would take over an ambitious project in which reconstituted adhesion complexes are used to understand the earliest molecular events of cell adhesion to integrin substrates from the single molecule level up to the cellular level. Emphasis is to obtain a comprehensive quantitative physical understanding of the involved process. The project is funded by an ERC-Synergy grant over six years.
The candidates would join a successful and well-equipped consortium of three laboratories with world-wide recognition on the field of adhesion biology, cellular – and single molecule biophysics. Besides an interesting and disease-relevant project, we offer the opportunity to connect to internationally renowned scientists.
Your qualification:
o High motivation, curiosity, and commitment to scientific excellence
o Master's or PhD degree in physics, cell biology, biochemistry, biophysics or similar fields
o Practical lab experience
o Interest in interdisciplinary and quantitative biology
o Excellent skills in spoken as well as written English
The successful candidates will have a strong background in either biochemistry, biophysics or physics, preferably with in depth experience in:
o heterologous protein expression und purification
o characterization of proteins – Analysis of protein interactions (e.g. surface plasmon resonance, isothermal titration calorimetry, analytical ultracentrifugation, dynamic light scattering)
o single molecule measurements
o optical tweezers and experience with self built optical instruments
o advanced methods of light microscopy and digital imaging processing and analysis
o biomechanics and concepts of (bio-) soft matter physics and active matter physics
Remuneration and benefits are in accordance with the collective agreement for the public service (TVÖD).
Please send your application (including motivation letter, CV, names of two referees and transcripts in one PDF) to Profs. Andreas Bausch (abausch@mytum.de), Matthias Rief (mrief@mytum.de) or Reinhard Fässler (faessler@biochem.mpg.de).
