The laboratory of Dr. Bruce Tan is interested in studying the physiology and pathobiology of upper airway mucosal inflammation that causes chronic rhinosinusitis in humans. We currently have openings for two (2) postdoctoral fellows/research associates with interests in immunology and interests in 1) mucosal B cells and antibodies and 2) epithelial biology of humans.
The applicant should have a PhD in immunology/pathology/molecular biology or post-doctoral experience in those areas. They should be ideally have recent and hands-on experience with either 1) flow cytometry, ELISPOT assays, cell sorting and assaying immunoglobulin specificities or 2) mechanistic study of epithelial cells at air liquid interface, molecular genetic manipulation of epithelial cells using lentiviral or CRISPR/Cas9 approaches. The applicant should be able to design experiments design with appropriate controls, troubleshoot experiments, prepare and present their work at meetings, and write scientific manuscripts in English. Salary will be commensurate with experience and based on the NIH scale.
Job Requirements
1) To conduct laboratory experiments including: 1) studies of antibody specificity and isolation and characterization of mucosal B-cells from human tissue and 2) the mechanistic study of epithelial cells at air liquid interface, molecular genetic manipulation of epithelial cells using lentiviral or CRISPR/Cas9 approaches, and single cell RNA-seq analysis
2) To help write grants and compete for funding
3) To supervise students and other techs working in the immunology lab
4) To help write, present and contribute to publications resulting from research done in the lab
5) Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD degree in Immunology or Molecular Biology and 0-3 years of post-doctoral experience
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
Must have good computer skills, ability to work in a team, competency in some of the core skills mentioned above.
Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)
PhD in immunology or molecular biology and has experience with independent experimental design, troubleshooting of experiments and using published literature to guide future research directions
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
Prior experience with mechanistic study of epithelial cells at air liquid interface, molecular genetic manipulation of epithelial cells using lentiviral or CRISPR/Cas9 approaches, and single cell RNA-seq analysis would be strongly preferred
