Postdoctoral Positions
(Experimental and Computational Quantitative Single-Cell Biology)
The Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Freiburg, Germany, has an openings for two postdocs in Computational and/or Experimental Single-Cell Biology for an initial period of two years. The positions are available in the group of Dominic Grün (https://www.ie-freiburg.mpg.de/gruen). We are studying cell fate decision in multilineage systems with the aim to reveal regulatory mechanisms of cell fate choice. Major tools are single-cell RNA-seq and multiplexed single-molecule FISH to investigate the dependence on spatial context. Experimental systems are human and mouse immune cell populations across tissues and cell fate dynamics in the normal and diseased liver. The positions offer the opportunity to learn single-cell experimental and data analysis techniques and to develop novel experimental and/or computational methods.
Your tasks:
COMPUTATIONALPOSITION: If you apply as a computational postdoc you will focus on the development of computational algorithms addressing various challenges: (1) Development of efficient algorithms dealing with increasing size and complexity of single-cell datasets. (2) Integration of data produced by different techniques, e. g. spatial gene expression maps and single-cell transcriptomes. (3) Derivation of models of gene regulation from multi-modal single-cell data. You will also have the possibility to learn wet lab techniques.
EXPERIMENTALPOSITION: You will investigate cell fate dynamics in healthy and diseased human tissues and/or mouse models. You will perform single-cell omics techniques and multiplexed single-molecule FISH experiments in tissue sections. You will utilize organoid culture or mouse models for functional analysis. You will be expected to perform computational analysis of the data with available methods.
Your qualifications:
COMPUTATIONALPOSITION:
o PhD in Physics, Mathematics, Life Science, Natural Science, or comparable
o Strong background in at least one of the following disciplines: Machine Learning, Statistics, Modeling, Computational Data Analysis
o Basic knowledge of next-generation sequencing data analysis
o Profound interest in Molecular Biology and stem cell differentiation
o At least one first author paper in an international peer-reviewed journal
o fluency in English
EXPERIMENTALPOSITION:
o PhD in Life Science, Natural Science, or comparable
o Strong background in basic Molecular Biology techniques
o Background in (single-cell) omics and/or advanced imaging techniques
o Specific knowledge of hematopoiesis or liver (disease) biology is a strong plus
o Profound interest in stem cell differentiation
o At least one first author paper in an international peer-reviewed journal
o fluency in English
We are looking for motivated team players with strong communication skills and the desire to work in a dynamic environment. Your desire to understand biological problems is a must and prior experience in the field stem cell differentiation and immunology or epigenetics is a strong plus.
