Under the direction of a mentor, the postdoc will conduct research, prepare and/or contribute to grant and contract applications, and submit research results for publication. The primary focus of the research is on designing an immunotherapeutic regimen that can specifically improve T cell responses during TB-SIV co-infection leading to faster and effective treatment. In parallel, he/she will also be studying the correlates of sustained immunity and protection from Mycobacterium tuberculosis in a Rhesus macaque model of infection with the ultimate goal of designing more efficacious vaccination strategies against Tb. In addition, the postdoc will focus on understanding the role of transcriptional factors in M. tuberculosis, as well as understanding dormancy and resuscitation of the bacterium during infection. The postdoc will also be expected to write scientific papers and/or abstracts for presentation at national and international meetings related to research projects.
