We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Assistant with experience in the field of lysosomal storage diseases, reporting to Professor Fran Platt in the Department of Pharmacology.
This 2-year post is funded by a grant from Action Medical Research. The postholder provides guidance to less experienced members of the research group, including postdocs, research assistants, technicians, and PhD and project students.
The postholder will be expected to manage their own academic research and administrative activities, to adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols, contribute ideas for new research projects, collaborate in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and occasionally present papers and posters, act as a source of information and advice to other members of the group on scientific protocols and experimental techniques, represent the research group at external meetings/seminars, either with other members of the group or alone; and carry out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions, and research groups.
The successful candidate will need to have: a relevant PhD/DPhil, together with relevant experience and previous experience of working on mouse models of lysosomal diseases. In addition, applicants should possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established research programmes, have the ability to manage own academic research and associated activities, have previous experience of contributing to publications/presentations and should demonstrate excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings. Completion of training in the use of animals for research and previous experience of holding a Home Office Personal Licence would be an advantage.
The post is fixed-term for 2 years, funded by Action Medical Research.
