The laboratory of Dr. Siyuan Zheng and Xiaojing Wang invites applications to fill multiple bioinformatics postdoctoral fellow positions at the Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute, the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Our lab is dedicated to understanding adult and pediatric cancers through high quality computational analysis of genomic and proteomic data.
Ongoing projects are focused on the following topics:
- Telomeres, telomerase and shelterin complex in cancer
- Ploidy and whole genome doubling
- Proteogenomics and immune system
- Drug responses and pathway activities in childhood cancer
- Gene fusions
The candidates will have the opportunity to leverage level one data from public resources such as TCGA, TARGET, and GTEx, and will have access to a large collection of in-house data (including Hi-C, DNA/RNA sequencing of cell lines and xenografts) being generated at GCCRI. Our institute provides a multidisciplinary and collegial academic environment, led by Dr. Peter Houghton, and convenient access to an extensive array of core facilities including the genomic sequencing core. Responsibilities
The successful candidates are expected to lead independent research projects. We strongly encourage candidates with cancer genomics or proteomics background to apply. Major responsibilities include collecting proper background of the research project, implementing and extending current methods, reporting project progress in conferences and lab meetings, and writing manuscripts.
Qualifications
The candidates must have a PhD or MD degree in a related field (bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, genome science, molecular biology). A strong computational background with experience in at least one programing language (e.g. R, Python, Java, Perl) and Linux working environment is required for the computational position. Experience working with TCGA, ICGC, COSMIC, 1000 Genomes, ENCODE, GTEx, or ExAC, or other large-scale sequencing data analysis is highly preferred. Candidate is also expected to have some basic understanding of cancer biology. One first author publications in peer-reviewed journals are a minimum requirement. Candidates with training in both computational biology and wet lab experiments are also encouraged to apply.
