General Summary of Position:
A postdoctoral position is available at the Department of Biomedical and Nutritional Sciences at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. The postdoc is expected to start as early as Spring 2019 with competitive stipend and benefits package. We seek highly motivated candidates with strong multidisciplinary background, work ethics, and productivity.
The Food Safety Lab at UMass Lowell conducts well-funded research projects under the framework of the groundbreaking 2011 US Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA): 1) Novel monitoring and inspection systems for viable pathogens; 2) Innovative preventive controls and food safety solutions. The projects involved in this position may include, but not limited to 1) Food safety applications of antifouling materials; 2) Advanced pathogen detection strategies through sensor fusion, machine learning, and bioinformatics.
The principal roles of the postdoctoral research associate include, but not limited to:
a) Assisting PI in the design, execution, and summarization of assigned research projects.
b) Establishing priorities and schedules, and managing timetables and procurement options for the research group.
c) Securing and maintaining extramural funding.
d) Generating high-quality and high-impact peer-reviewed publications, and/or IP invention disclosures.
e) Supervising graduate and undergraduate students. Maintaining research equipment.
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, material science, microbiology, food microbiology, and related fields
A strong multidisciplinary background with established track records in material engineering, pathogen detection, and/or clinical applications of machine learning and omics
The ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse groups and collaborators
Strong writing and oral communication skills in English
Candidates with prior experiences in quantitative data analysis, machine learning, and/or omics are encouraged to apply

This position is contingent upon funding. The initial appointment will be for one year with a possibility of renewal contingent upon funding and successful performance.
