Post doctoral position Physiological phenotyping of high value crops 1020654
Aarhus University
Aarhus University, Science and Technology, Department of Food Science, Research Centre Aarslev, offers a 2-year position at the post doctoral level within the area of physiological phenotyping of high value crop species, starting 1 April 2019.
Area of work
Phenotyping is the quantitative analysis of the set of observable characteristics (structure and function) of an individual plant resulting from the interaction of its genotype with the environment. So far, focus has been on studying acclimation and adaption to abiotic factors using key components of fitness related traits (e.g. growth, carbohydrate allocation, secondary metabolites, morphology and photosynthesis) as well as stress indicators (e.g. chlorophyll fluorescence). Melatonin, N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamin, is a hormone involved in plant responses to abiotic stress such as elevated CO2 concentrations. In order to understand how plants respond to multiple abiotic stress factors it is important to combine physiological, metabolic and molecular phenotyping including the hormone melatonin. This will provide tools for future selection of more resilient and sustainable varieties of our high value crop plants.
The Post doc position is part of the Research Group ‘Plant Food Climate’ at the Department of Food Science.
Qualifications
• Relevant education from a University or other academic institution.
• A PhD degree (or equivalent experience) in crop physiology, preferably in high value crops
• Experience on photosynthesis and chlorophyll fluorescence
• Experience on metabolite analysis in relation to photosynthetic processes
• Documented expertise in running research experiments in protected cultivation eg glasshouse environments
• Documentation of good skills in communication of research results internationally as evidenced by a high rate of publication
• Experience in supervising students and teaching at a high academic level will also be a merit
