  We are seeking a keen and talented postdoctoral fellow to join our translational euro-oncology laboratory at the Hospital for Sick Children. The Ramaswamy Lab at the Hospital for Sick Children performs studies of translational genomics of paediatric brain tumours with an overarching goal of discovering new and novel therapies for children with high-risk recurrent tumours. We use primary human datasets coupled with unbiased chemical and genetic screening to inform new treatment avenues, and then validate these approaches in robust animal models. We seek to understand treatment resistance to both radiation and chemotherapy in high risk paediatric brain tumours, with a specific interest in medulloblastoma and ependymoma. We also have a keen interest in developing new biomarkers for both prognosis and response to therapy and to combine these with new and novel therapies.

  Our laboratory is located within the Arthur and Sonia Labatt Brain Tumour Research Centre which is one of the largest and productive paediatric brain tumour groups in the world. We have 11 principal investigators and over 120 trainees with 120000 sq ft. of research space, in an open concept setting focused on all aspects of brain tumour research. Our group have been at the forefront of major discoveries in paediatric brain tumours over the past 20 years, and have been a leader in the genomics of all types of paediatric brain tumours. Furthermore, we are part of the Programme in Developmental and Stem Cell Biology within the Sickkids Research Institute providing a very rich environment of experts in cancer and stem cell biology. The Hospital for Sick Children is located across the street from the University of Toronto, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and Ontario Institute for Cancer Research where we have extensive collaborations in addition to my affiliation in the Department of Medical Biophysics provides access to world class scientists. Our group is well funded through national granting agencies, and will provide a rich, fun and nurturing environment.

  Candidate must have received (or expect to receive soon) a Ph.D. and have extensive experience in molecular biology, cancer biology or related discipline and ideally have a background in human genomics and/or functional genomics. The following skills will be highly valued for this position:

  -        Cancer stem cell culture methods and flow cytometry

  -        Animal modelling, particularly orthotropic xenografts

  -        Ideally a working knowledge in R and/or Python

  -        Experience working with genetics and omics data

  -        Knowledge of cancer biology is a major plus

  -        First (or co-first) author of one or more peer-reviewed scientific publications

  -        Excellent English verbal and written communication skills

  -        Able to work both independently and in teams
