　　The School of Engineering is a large and successful unit in MMU’s Faculty of Science and Engineering. It is committed to achieving high quality teaching, research and enterprise. The School has a long track record of securing grants from research councils and industry, and made a significant contribution to the University's REF2014 submission. The School works closely with employers, particularly in the fascinating field of Industry 4.0 related projects.

　　We are looking for an enthusiastic researcher to accelerate our research on the integration of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoTs) technologies, and their application to extracting condition related features from big data sets. The project is expected to develop novel machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms for industry 4.0 applications and its underpinning technologies.

　　The candidate will join the team working in the Intelligent Infrastructure research theme, which comprises the sub‐topics of Industrial Internet of Things and concerns the development of tools and methodologies to address challenges in smart factories, adaptive control and monitoring systems and smart manufacturing (Industry 4.0).

　　The person we appoint will be responsible for the management of a pre-defined research project as directed by the project coordinator.

　　Qualifications and skills:

　　·         PhD in IT, software engineering or a closely related area.

　　·         Excellent knowledge of advanced data analysis methods.

　　·         Very good communication and writing skills.

　　·         Proven track record in peer-reviewed publications.

　　·         Ability to work as part of a joint academia and industry team.

　　About ideal applicant:

　　In addition to the above mentioned qualifications, the applicant will need to demonstrate adaptability due to the multi-disciplinary nature of the work, and the capacity to carry out experimental work safely, and with precision. An ability to work as part of a diverse team, to meet deadlines and produce reports and presentations of a high standard to a range of audiences is essential. Ability to critically evaluate their own work, a willingness and ability to travel is an advantage, as the project may involve a short period of work at collaborating groups.
