　　Job Description

　　The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine has an exciting career opportunity for an Assistant Scientist. The Assistant Scientist will be part of groups of dedicated researchers and will have frequent interactions with a broad range of scientists with expertise in molecular biology, neurobiology, genetics, bioinformatics and molecular pharmacology at the Department of Neurological Surgery and Department of Ophthalmology. Previous experience in optic nerve, retina and CNS injury models in rodents, DNA mutagenesis/cloning, RT-PCR and in situ hybridization are a prerequisite. Experience in Crispr/Cas, primary cell cultures and bioinformatics are desirable.

　　The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:

　　Perform molecular biology techniques such as site directed mutagenesis, shRNA, Crispr/Cas9, DNA/plasmid cloning, real time PCR

　　Perform rodent in vivo surgeries in CNS injury models involving retina and/or optic nerve

　　Perform primary neuronal (and glial) cell cultures

　　Perform experiments to determine the signaling pathways involved in cell injury responses

　　Present findings at lab meetings, departmental seminars and national and/or international conferences

　　Train and supervise students and volunteers

　　Assist in performing next generation RNA sequencing and analysis

　　High content screening of cell phenotypes using primary neurons

　　Minimum Qualifications

　　Ph.D., M.D. or other doctoral level degree as well as at least one year of relevant experience in optic nerve, retina and CNS injury models in rodents, DNA mutagenesis/cloning, RT-PCR and in situ hybridization. Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data. Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
