Our profile: Our team is committed to basic and applied translational research in the field of neglected tropical diseases (NTD), one of the major topics integrated in Global Health development. We are eager to align our research with the new WHO NTD Roadmap to reduce the disease burden by 90% until 2030. One of the pillars to achieve this is the development of novel, sensitive diagnostics. Within this BMBF funded project, we seek to provide new solutions for rapid, field applicable POC testing for the most relevant NTDs like schistosomiasis and filariasis in collaboration with a Munich-based biotech company using a novel sample-to-answer, PCR-based approach. The project will be embedded within the newly launched thematic translational unit (TTU) “Malaria and Tropical Diseases” of the German Center of Infection Research (DZIF) and will reach out to the Global Health community in Germany which we are part of and our many partners from the Global South.
Your profile: - PhD degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biotechnology with outstanding result - Experience in molecular test development and validation - Work experience in industry setting is a plus - Enthusiasm for translational science embedded in the Global Health arena - Excellent team spirit, presentation, and communication skills
Your tasks: - Design of novel multiplexed molecular assays on the company platform - Contribution to the development of DNA extraction-free sample processing - Development of a clinical sample workflow in resource-poor settings - Supervision of PhDs - Contribution to Center for Global Health activities (e.g. white papers, policy briefs)
We offer: - Ambitious and innovation oriented team committed to Infection and Immunology research in Global Health - Close collaboration with in house medical microbiology and parasitology department, and other members of the DZIF TTU as well as CGH - Well-equipped laboratory in our institute close to Munich city center - Full time position as scientist / PostDoc (m/w/d) from January 1st 2021 - The position is currently secured for 24 months (salary according to TV-L), with the perspective of extension - TUM seeks to increase the portion of female employees.
