Research Fellow (105433-0422
University of Warwick
Description
We are looking to hire a postdoctoral scientists to join our existing team working on a project funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation within the research group of Orkun Soyer. In this project, we aim to understand the relations between spatial organization and metabolic interactions among microorganisms found in aquatic environments. Using phototrophic granules from a freshwater reservoir as our model system, we are combining approaches from microbial physiology and biophysics to quantify and model spatial organization within these systems.
We are looking to hire a postdoctoral research assistant with complementary skills to our existing team of microbiologist and biophysicist. The successful candidate will work together with the existing team, focusing on quantifying chemical gradients and metabolic interactions in our spatial model system. This will entail tracking spatial organisation and metabolic interactions using analytical tools such as micro-electrodes, mass spectroscopy, isotope tracing, or fluorescent microscopy. The ideal candidate should have a working experience in one or multiple of such methods and a background in microbial physiology, microbial genetics, biophysics, biochemistry, or analytical chemistry.
Interview Date: TBC.
If you are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD but have not yet had it conferred, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant at the top of level 5 of the University grade structure (£30,497). Upon receipt of evidence of the successful award of your PhD, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of level 6 of the University grade structure (£31,406 pa).
