Job description
Faculty of Health and Life Sciences
This full-time Dstl funded post is available from 1 September 2022 on a fixed term basis until 31 May 2024, with possibility of extension, in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences.
The post
The Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in a synthetic enzymology project to develop novel tetrazole fine chemicals in an environmentally sustainable manner. The successful applicant will prepare enzymes in E. coli , perform thorough enzymatic characterisation of these enzymes, and integrate these enzymes into a cascade. The post will include mentoring a PhD student who will work on parallel aims of the project, and reporting findings to the funder. The successful applicant will be expected and empowered to undertake personal development as part of the role. The successful applicant will join a dynamic group of researchers in protein science who investigate proteins at structural, functional, and dynamic levels to understand their role in biology, and will benefit from our strong links with the funder Dstl.
About you
Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in Biochemistry or a related field of study. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in enzyme research and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. Applicants will be able to express, purify, and characterise enzymes. They will have the skills to train others in this area of research, to integrate findings with others, and to communicate results to funders. The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects, and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.
