The Dodd-Walls Centre is a national Centre of Research Excellence, providing opportunities for collaboration across world class experimental and theoretical quantum physics groups.

The role/Te mahi

As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Theoretical Quantum Physics, you will work within the Dodd-Walls Centre in the Department of Physics. The position is in the group of the Centre's Director, Professor David Hutchinson, and will support the research programme of the group.

The main research aims of the group involve the theoretical studies of ultracold atomic gases and, in particular, the effects of disorder upon properties of cold gases.

A strong theoretical background in ultracold gases or condensed matter physics is strongly desirable, although candidates with backgrounds that complement Professor Hutchinson's other research interests will be considered.

Successful applicants will: • Have a doctorate in theoretical quantum physics. • Have demonstrated strength in the areas of ultracold atomic physics, or another area that complements Professor Hutchinson's research interests. • Be highly motivated and have excellent interpersonal communication skills. • Have experience in research in the appropriate area and be keen to develop their own research themes in conjunction with Professor Hutchinson and the wider group plus Dodd-Walls community.

This position is fixed term (2 years), full-time (1FTE/37.5 hours week), based in Dunedin.

The salary level for this role is $78,960.
