Employer

Location

Salary

The expected starting salary range for this position is between $69,900 and $75,740

The Department of Educational Studies at Carleton College invites applications for the Robert A. Oden, Jr. Postdoctoral Fellowship for Innovation in the Liberal Arts, a two-year position to begin September 1, 2025. The candidate must have their doctorate in hand (received less than five years ago) by the start date of the position. The position involves teaching two courses the first year, three courses the second year, and time and resources to pursue their own scholarship.

At Carleton, Educational Studies offers an interdisciplinary minor as well as general education courses open to all students. Several of our courses offer field experiences in local schools as well as opportunities to collaborate with a variety of community partners. While Carleton does not offer teacher licensure or a major, we encourage Carleton students to consider careers as K-12 practitioners, scholars, researchers, advocates, and policy makers.

This position will entail teaching two of the department’s core courses (1. Introduction to Educational Studies and 2. Educational Psychology), as well as an additional course that focuses on Learning, Cognition, and Development. We seek candidates with expertise in the learning sciences (possible fields include psychology, cognitive science, computer science, etc.). We are particularly interested in these areas of focus: STEM fields (as a site of analysis or application in terms of research); international and comparative education; educational technology/critical technology studies; elementary education; and/or neurodiverse learners. We strongly encourage candidates with teaching and/or research experiences in preK-12 schools to apply.

The successful candidate will be an equity-minded individual committed to mentoring students from a broad range of socioeconomic backgrounds, genders, orientations, abilities, and cultural heritages. We seek applicants who understand the benefits of a diverse student body and who are committed to providing a respectful learning environment for all students. We are especially interested in candidates who have a record of and/or an investment in building reciprocal relationships with local schools and other educational institutions.

Carleton is a highly selective undergraduate liberal arts college with a student body of approximately 2,000. Located in the thriving two-college town of Northfield, Minnesota, it is forty-five miles from the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, a metropolitan area with vibrant Native and immigrant communities and communities of color. Information about Carleton, Northfield, and the Twin Cities is available at https://www.carleton.edu/faculty-candidates/.

Carleton is committed to developing its faculty to better reflect the diversity of our student body and American society. Gender-diverse individuals and members of underrepresented minority groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Carleton College does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, ethnicity, religion, sex, national origin, marital status, veteran status, actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, status with regard to public assistance, disability, or age in providing employment or access to its educational facilities.

To apply, please visit the Carleton College web site at go.carleton.edu/carletonjobs to complete the online application by submitting a cover letter, CV, and a statement about teaching students from diverse backgrounds in an undergraduate, residential liberal arts environment. After passing through an initial screening process, applicants may receive a request for the contact information for three references, including at least one who is able to specifically address teaching experience. The deadline for receipt of applications is March 3, 2025.

The expected starting salary range for this position is between $69,900 and $75,740. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility. Carleton also offers a robust suite of benefits including:

A generous 403(b) retirement plan with a 10% employer contribution and 2% employee contribution

Medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance

Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for all employees
