General Descriptions
The Academic Dean functions as the chief academic officer of SKEMA China. She/He reports to Vice-Dean, Programs, International and Student.
The Dean will exercise significant independence in making decisions, following academic guidelines established by SKEMA policy committees. The Dean makes decisions in consultation with the Directors of Academic Programs, about operations and curriculum at all levels, significantly affecting outcomes such as recruitment and admissions, student throughput, and graduation.
Main Responsibilities
Academic Dean for SKEMA Suzhou
• Recruit and hire highly qualified academic and professionally qualified faculty to teach in the academic programs offered on the Suzhou campus
• Deliver courses to international classes of the Suzhou campus in his/her field of expertise
• Develop, in collaboration with Program Directors, comprehensive student recruitment strategies for all programs offered in SKEMA Suzhou
• Develop a process and methodology that facilitates and yields a high ratio of admits to matriculation.
• Cultivate relationships with local government in terms of education for academic contribution and influence in the community.
• Cultivate relationships with the Chinese academic partners (current partners and development of new partnerships) and exchange agreements.
• Meet regularly with students and faculty to insure the curriculum is aligned with learning objectives and students are successfully engaged in the learning process.
• Manage the academic and students’ team in their daily school life (program, sport, student associations, health problems…)
• Budget management for academic team of Suzhou campus.
• Lead SKEMA Venture activity for Suzhou campus.
• Manage study tours in Suzhou, including course design, finding prof, organize campus visit.
• Manage the strategic school project with other Chinese universities or institutions and contribute to its success.
Deputy Dean for International Audit Joint Institute, Nanjing Audit University
• Confirm course and syllabus to be taught by SKEMA
• Recruit and hire highly qualified academic and professionally qualified faculty to teach the courses for Joint institute from SKEMA side
• Manage the faculty administration operation
• Teaching and scientific research
• Assist in student management
Selection Criteria
• PhD in business, management, or related field and at least five years of related experience in the academic area, or business, or a combination of both
• Teaching experience in higher education in English is required and be able to manage faculty
• Have published articles in peer reviewed journals, academic or practice oriented, or demonstrate a potential to publish in international reviews by the high-quality work in progress.
• A mix of academic and business experience preferred
• knowledgeable of AACSB and EQUIS requirements
• Strong leadership, problem solving, organizational and time management skills
• Strong academic network in China
• Excellent written, verbal, and intercultural communication skills
• Proficient in English and Chinese
• Experience working or studying abroad is preferred
