Position Summary
NYU Shanghai Center of Institutional Research and Advancement (CIRA) carries out both IR responsibilities of data management and analytics to inform institutional decisions, as well as the studies that feature NYU Shanghai as an innovative experiment of higher education. Qualified members of CIRA shall have in-depth insights of higher education and institutional operations in both Chinese and international contexts, and strong capabilities of perform quantitative and qualitative applied studies that support decision making.
The Institutional Research Analyst under CIRA assists in identifying, collecting, developing, managing, analyzing, and communicating institutional data and other information for internal and external uses, by the instructions of Senior Manager of Institutional Research and Data Management. This role will also participate in institutional research activities and projects to support university accreditation, assessment, decision-making, problem solving, strategic planning, etc.
The main responsibilities include:
Maintenance of the main university dataset (40%)
● Performs data management (collection, cleaning, organization, and processing) of institutional data in data warehouse and from multiple departments or systems;
● Supports the collaboration between IR and other departments to foster consensus and implementation of data standards and best practices;
● Proactively pays attention to quality control of data across sections and over time;
● Manages metadata of the main dataset to comply with established standards and protocols.
Quantitative Analysis for Institutional Research (40%)
● Proactively responses to regular and ad hoc data and information reporting queries from internal and external stakeholders;
● Performs quantitative analysis consultatively or self-initiatively to produce insights relevant to a wide range of institutional needs, including but not limited to accreditation, performance assessments, operations, etc.;
● Presents analytical results in the forms of narratives, reports, visualizations, etc.;
● Identifies problems, opportunities of improvements, and create solutions based on the results of analytics.
Office administration and other responsibilities as assigned (20%)
Qualifications
Required Education
● Bachelor’s Degree or above in quantitative related disciplines, such as (but not limited to) statistics, social sciences, economics, finance, ecology, etc.
Required Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
● Solid statistics or quantitative abilities in research or working; skilled in using analytical tools (i.e. SPSS, SAS, R) and visualization tools (i.e. Tableau); programing skills (i.e. SQL or Python) for database manipulation preferred.
● Strong analytical thinking;
● Knowledge of survey instruments, protocols, and procedures;
● Capable of multitask upon deadlines;
● Highly organized, and rigorous attention to detail;
● Quick learner;
● Good spoken and written English skills, and academic writing skills;
● Understanding of Chinese and international higher education contexts preferred.
