Addressing one of the main global challenges,the new 'Sustainability, Agriculture, and Technology' lab aims to contribute towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by providing food, energy, and fibres sustainably in existing and new agricultural production systems. As an international team striving for excellence, our work is global, we embrace new technologies and methods, and collaborate openly based on innovative thinking.

The lab is currently expanding a network of global projects to assess landscape-level effects of cocoa and rice production systems on the environment and people. Besides comprehensive biodiversity and socioeconomic monitoring, we are interested in human health effects as a result of agricultural management and general land-use change under climate change. Ultimately, we want to develop a long-term and holistic picture of the ecological, social, and economic effect of agricultural production strategies in different crops and parts of the world.

Job Description

Position:PostDoc | Global Health & Agriculture

In this role,you will interact closely with other members of the lab and the PhD students under your direct supervision on how to best assess human health concerns from agricultural management in the project regions in Indonesia, China, but also Ghana, and Brazil. A focus could be on Dengue fever or non-communicable diseases. As we want you to be the global health expert in the team, you will have a lot of freedom to develop the specific objectives together with the PI.

You can expect a highly motivated and fast-paced team, eager to collaborate, support, and to put innovative ideas into action. Building your own team within the team, you can increase your scientific output and prepare your leadership skills for your future career. The lab is well funded and, hence, in a great position and willing to pilot risky ideas.

Requirements:

For this role

1) You should have about two years of research experience after the PhD from a reputable institution and a group working on public health at an international level;

2) Your past activities have led to some high impact publications in public health;

3) You could already gather experience leading international teams and PhD students both in the fields and in the laboratory;

4) You enjoy interacting openly in an international and collaborative environment and approach new project opportunities proactively.

Other requirements:

1) Have obtained or about to obtain a Ph.D. degree, aged under 35;

2) Candidate’s Ph.D. degree should be obtained within 3 years.

Compensation and Benefits

The research team offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience. Applications for relevant projects and programs will be encouraged and supported. For postdoctoral fellow who selected for China Postdoctoral Science Foundation or Advanced Programs of Zhejiang Province will be entitled to receive the same amount funds from the Hangzhou government. For postdoctoral fellow who full-time work in Hangzhou after completing their post-doc research will be eligible for applying allowance of 400,000RMB from the Hangzhou government.
